Halloween Safety

With all the uncertainty in today's world, it is nice to see some local stores getting ready for Halloween. It's brightened our spirits to see costumes on display, candy aisles filled to the brim with Halloween treats and decor. This is also the time of year to remember safety with our kids, families and homes. Plan ahead and think safety first by keeping decorations away from open flames, avoid using candles- glow sticks can always be a great substitue and double check children's costumes for fire/safety features. Follow some of these tips and enjoy the upcoming treats!
- Use a battery-operated candle or glow stick in jack-o-lanterns
- When choosing costumes, stay away from long trailing fabrics.
- Stay away from open flames, including jack-o-lanterns with candles in them and fire pits.
- Dried flowers, cornstalks, and crepe paper catch fire easily. Keep all decorations away from open flames and other heat sources like light bulbs and heaters
- Provide children with flashlights to carry for lighting or glow sticks as part of their costume.
- As always make sure all smoke and CO2 alarms are working with fresh batteries.
